This is always the first priority - for me to know the target market groups, unique selling points/competitive advantages, present & future challenges, customer behaviours. This will help dictate the design process and how the project is approached.

Carefully calculated decisions alone aren't enough, a successful identity has to have a number of ingredients. Their needs to be a high level of attention to detail - every consideration should have reason. The outcome needs to be 'future-proof' - any identity needs to be flexible and forward thinking so it can evolve with changes in business or the market. Perhaps the most important ingredient is CREATIVITY, a spark of genius to seize an opportunity!

An identity is more than simply a singular logo, its all the unifying visual components. When we think of a logo, we must also think of how/where it will feature and how it can adapt but remain consistent. For example: how will it appear on social media? how will it look when small? The set of designs need to be adaptive and strongly communicate the businesses values in order to be effective.
